Friends with Benefits is written by Margot Radcliffe and published by M&B Dare, so romance with added extra spice! Set in the casinos of Las Vegas Alexa runs a casino, enjoys one night stands and gambling. Her best friend, Carter made his fortune through designing security devices for casinos. Alexaasjs Carter to be her fake fiancé which resulted in taking their marriage vows whilst drunk! World the marriage cost them their friendship and chance of a HEA.

I found this book rather forced. The characters weren’t particularly likeable as they seemed obsessed with money and didn’t progress beyond that.

#AD Book Review: The Princess Plan by Julia London

The Princess Plan is written by Julia London and published by M&B Historical Romance.  Eliza Tricklebank doesn’t care what anybody thinks about her, says what she is thinking and runs the local ladies gazette with her sister, Caroline, whilst caring for their father who tinkers with clocks. She first meets  Prince Sebastian of Alucia, who in the UK in order to negotiate a trade deal, at the Ball held in his honour. After this his private secretary and close friend is found murdered. As the local gazette received an anonymous tip off he needs Eliza’s help to solve the crime. Slowly he falls for her outspoken nature. 

Though the romance between Samuel and Eliza was the central theme of the novel, crime, intrigue,  mystery and murder made it more multi dimensional in appeal. There is lots of enjoyable banter between all the characters. This is the first Historical romance novel I have read where ther have been explicit sex scenes.

#AD Book Review: Miss Lottie’s Christmas Protector by Sophia James

Miss Lottie’s Christmas Protector is a M&B Historical romance written by Sophia James.  Victorian romance set in the seedier parts of London, Lottie Fairclough is the determined heroine. Slightly (very) infatuated with the hero, Jasper King, she is determined that her elder sister, Amelia, will not have marry a man she dislikes and also find her elder brother, Silas, last heard of setting sail for America to find his fortune! She works at the Fairclough Foundation with her mother as they try to help poor women and children out of poverty. Jasper has just recovered from a terrible accident that left him addicted to laudanum. He has managed to kick his addiction but he is concerned his injuries will eventually lead him into having to use a wheelchair.  Lottie seeks him out as he potentially will be able to find her brother as they are both engineers plus she hopes to persuade him to marry her sister.  

Lottie and James have an instant attraction but Hanes is resolute that he will stay single as he fears no one will be able to cope with him when he is consumed with pain.  He helps Lottie track down one of the girls from the Foundation who had disappeared. Will they find their HEA?

I found this an interesting read. Not just a romance it also touches on the social and economic problems of the era and there is an element of mystery with the disappearance of Lottie’s friend.

Unwrapping The Innocent’s Secret is published by Mills & Boon Modern and the author is Caitlin Crews. Pascal Furlani first met Cecilia Reginald 6 years ago in remote Italian village. She is a novice nun, he is being nursed back to health in the Convent Hospital after being involved in a terrible car accident. Now, 6 years later Pascal is a billionaire searching for the perfect wife, but cannot forget Cecilia. He searches her out at the same village and is shocked to discover that she is not a Nun but a cleaner bringing up their son. He brings them back to Rome but will they overcome their childhood traumas and develop a healthy loving relationship. 

Well written and enjoyed the Mother Superior’s inclusion in the book as she added some sharp wit.

#AD Book Review: Christmas Baby For the Billionaire by Donna Alward

Christmas Baby For the Billionaire is written by Donna Alward and published by Mills & Boon True Love. Tori Sharpe is the resort manager at Sandpiper Springs Hotel Nova Scotia. Jeremy Fisher is a billionaire from New York. They met and had a two week fling at the resort four months ago and now Tori is pregnant. Jeremy finds out when he revisits the resort whilst house hunting for a client. Tori is determined to raise the child by here self whilst Jeremy has to overcome his childhood problems if he is going to become the father that he wants to be. They spend the week together to see if they can build a relationship for their child. Can a Christmas  in New York help them overcome the obstacles to their HEA? 

A gentle, traditional romance. No mind blowing moments of clarity,  just a well written novel.

#AD Book Review: Claiming My Hidden Son by Maya Blake

Claiming My Hidden Son is written by well known M&B author Maya Blake and published by Mills & Boon Modern imprint. Neither the hero - Axios nor the heroine - Calypso want this arranged marriage decided years ago by their respective grandfathers and invoked by Calypso’s father as he needs a cash injection to save his business. If Calypso doesn’t agree to the marriage her father will make her wheelchair bound mother’s life miserable. The marriage goes ahead and sparks definitely fly on the couples’s Wedding night. Calypso flees the next day, using the money her mother had given her for such a situation. Fast forward a year and the reader finds Calypso in Bora Bora with her baby son. She is planning to go back to Athens to give the baby to Axios whilst she goes to Switzerland to seek treatment for an illness that killed her grandmother. Unfortunately for her Axios tracks her down and takes her and their baby back to Athens. Slowly over the next few weeks they create a small family unit and Axios begs her to stay when she says she is leaving without their son. He finds out about her possible illness/diagnosis and let’s her go to Switzerland. Will they be able to overcome these secrets and have their HEA? 

Written in the first person and written mostly from  Axio’s   perspective, I found it confusing (and it spoiled the flow of the storyline) when suddenly the first person narrative switched to Calypso’s voice. If it hadn’t been such an enjoyable novel I would probably have given up on it but the premise of the book, for me, saved the book.

#AD Book Review: The Greek’s Surprise Christmas Bride by Lynne Graham

The Greek’s Surprise Christmas Bride is written by Lynne Graham and published by Mills & Boon Modern. Leo is a billionaire businessman who has. Econe the guardian to several of his cousin’s three  small children after their parents die in an accident. he wants to find a wife ASAP so he can restore order to his previously child free existence. Letty (Juliet) has had to postpone her training as a Doctor/GP to care for her family and to prevent her father’s business collapsing she marries Leo. Leo doesn’t get the subservient little wife he was expecting, she does not pander to his every whim but devotedly cares for the children. Slowly a marriage made on paper becomes more! 

I enjoyed this book. Letty wasn’t the traditional heroine. She refused to sign the prenuptial agreement, insisted that she continued her GP training and didn’t behave like the traditional Geek housewife. Leo got more than he was expecting and his character changed slowly as the storyline developed. I found this to be an enjoyable Christmas read.
