One Weekend In Prague by Alison Roberts

Summary 

One Weekend in Prague is an opposite attracts, holiday fling romance set in Prague. Mac (Hamish MacMillan) a well known  emergency medicine specialist from Scotland and Hanna Peterson, an emergency department nurse from New Zealand, are in Prague to not only sight see but also attend a medical conference.

They first meet under the Astronomical Clock as they have signed up to take a walking tour of Prague, their guide collapses and their relationship goes from there. They attend the conference and spend time together both in bed and sightseeing. Once the conference and holiday romance are over they both return to their reality. 

Hanna is surprised when Mac reappears in her life in New Zealand, filling in for her friend Jo who has gone on maternity leave. 

The second part of the book focuses more on the hospital setting and the pair building a relationship, overcoming hurdles to that. Will they be overcome the biggest problem of all? Mac doesn’t want commitment and children whilst Hanna does.

Book Review: Her Secret Baby Confession by Juliette Hyland

Her Secret Baby Confession by Juliette Hyland is a Mills & Boon Medical romance and the second novel in the Hope Hospital series. 

Jackson Peters, a nurse anaesthetist and Dr Ryann Oliver, a trauma surgeon had baby Alya after a one night stand in Hawaii. Jackson never thought he would be a father and has lots of emotional baggage dating back to being abandoned as a very young child. but Ryann has spent the past year trying to firstly tell him sw was pregnant and then that she had had a baby girl. She finally tracks him down to Hope hospital Arizona where she obtains a job as surgeon so she can finally tell him. The story unfolds from there. 

 I enjoyed this book because for once the heroine is the surgeon and both main characters are 40ish with interesting backstories. As someone who lives in the UK I was interested to read this medical romance which very slightly touched on the issues that shape the US - more black women die in child birth for example which I don’t think has ever been addressed in any othe medical novel I have read. 

I disliked the lack of tension and chemistry between the couple. There was a lack of a build up between the pair. was focused on building the perfect family life, whilst one of Ryann’s dominant storylines  was that she was obsessively focused on her elimination diet so she could breast feed. 

A bland book that lacks something to make the characters likeable. A shame as the premise is great.

Book Review: Secret Son To Change His Life by Alison Roberts

This is a second chance at love novel from the Mills and Boon Medical genre. The book is written by Alison Roberts and is the first in the Morgan Family Medics mini series.

Brie and Jonno are both paramedics. They had a one night stand 6 years ago which resulted in Felix, their little boy. Unfortunately Jonno disappeared after their night together and so he doesn’t know about Felix. Brie did try to find him but her search was fruitless. 6 years later they meet again during a call out that has turned violent. She finally gets to tell him about his son. At first he is angry, but then he is her rock when Felix has complications from his spina bifida. The attraction between Brie and Jonno is still there but will it survive all the stresses that are in their lives? 

I enjoyed the fact that the reader was not overloaded by medical jargon. As the author used to be a paramedic there was just the right balance between romance and medicalease.  Reading the notes to reader, the second book - How To Rescue The Heart Doctor - will be using the same characters as  the first, focusing not only on the found a son with health issues storyline but also father son/ older couple finding love again storylines which sounds an enjoyable read.
