Summary

The Billionaire in Disguise is a heart warming, gentle romance published by Mills and Boon. Nathan Bell is a billionaire who left London for New Zealand after suffering a heart attack in his early 30s due to his stressful career. He is currently renting a cottage on Jessica’s grandfather’s farm. Jessica Falls, a professional horse jumper is recovering after seriously injuring her back whilst competing. She returned to NZ to sort out her grandfathers estate and her life. 

Review 

The book follows the pair trying to sort their lives out whilst having a no strings romance. Quite an emotional yet gentle read as they both work towards their futures but will this push them apart.

I normally can read Soraya Lane’s book in one sitting but this one dragged. I found the storyline to be dragged out. The premise for the book is great and it is beautifully written, I just couldn’t get in to it.

Book Review: One Bed Between Rivals by Joss Wood

Introduction 

One Bed Between Rivals, written by Joss Wood and published by Mills and Boon Modern is a thoughtful eco romance.

Summary 

Thea and Farrell first met at university, she added an idealistic, studious student, him the playboy son of a hotel property millionaire. Thy didn’t mix in the same friendship group. 10 years on she is a successful travel blogger whilst he has taken over the family business and is trying to fix all th corrupt and damaging practices his father used whilst building his empire of holiday resorts. 

Thea has been invited to the opening of Farrell’s newest resort, an eco resort in th Seychelles.  Financed by Farrell it is one of many initiatives to try and fix the damage done to the eco system by his father. 

A tropical storm hits the resort on the first night. They are forced to share a bed in Farrell’s bungalow and the sparks fly. The media is about to  blow open all the corrupt dealings Farrell’s father entered into when building his empire. Will their romance survive?

Review

One Bed is quite a compact novel, the main characters could have been developed other more backstory. I Enjoyed the story being written from a dual point of view, it made the storyline more rounded as the refer saw the storyline develop from both characters standpoint. 

As usual with Joss Wood’s novels I enjoyed this book, I just wish it had been longer.

Book Review: Sailing To Singapore With The Tycoon by Ruby Basu

This is a new author in the Mills & Boon world of romantic fiction. Sailing to Singapore is part of the True Love series. Ruby tells the story of Matteo and Deepti, as they sail towards Singapore. Deepti has got a job on Matteo’s yacht in order to escape  London after losing her job. They are caring for Matteo’s niece who has lost her parents. Some matchmaking by the nanny. Will the romance unravel when Matteo discovers that Deepti lied about why she lost her job?

An interesting storyline, affable, likeable characters, amazing descriptions of the backdrop and scenery. I didn’t enjoy, however,  the pages of internal monologue, my interest drifted off. A great debut novel, just needs a little work on the execution which will come with time.

Book Review: Tempting Her Forbidden Boss by Natalie Anderson

Tempting her Forbidden Boss was originally published in 2010 as a Harlequin/ Mills and Boon Modern Heat novel entitled “Caught on Camera”. No longer under their copyright, it has been republished and renamed  as the first of Natalie Anderson’s Billionaire Bosses, Forbidden Flings series. 

Alex Carlisle is the CEO of Carlisle Finance Corporation. Due to a tumultuous childhood and discovering his biological father a few years ago he doesn’t do relationships, commitment or families. 

Dani Russo is on a mission to fulfil a deathbed promise to her mother and to find her brother who was adopted 8 years before she was born. She has travelled to New Zealand from Australia to find him and is living in a backpacking hostel and working for Alex’s firm whilst she searches for him. She also had a very tough childhood which continues to affect her as an adult. Once her amorous encounter with Alex, however, is plastered across YouTube, Dani is fired and essentially destitute. Alex feels guilty and gives her a room in his house and finds her a job in a charity that he runs with his best friend, Lorenzo (more about him in book 2). Normally this is a volunteer position but he pays her out of his own pocket. He also offers to pay for a private investigator to find her brother. 

Originally part of the Heat series, there is lots of chemistry and sex, but both the main characters are complex, not always likeable and need to come to terms with their pasts before they can move forward. Will it all fall apart when Dani finds out the truth about her brother and Alex tells her he doesn’t do long term or will Lorenzo persuade Alex to go after her?

The Secret She Must Tell The Spaniard by Clare Connelly

The Secret She Must Tell The Spaniard is written by Clare Connelly and published by Mills and Boon Modern. The novel combines several themes including secret baby, young love, betrayal, abandonment and reconciliation. 

Alicia was 16 and Graciano, 18,  when they had an affair. Alicia’s father, a minister for the church, accuses Graciano of assaulting Alicia and she stays silent. Graciano leaves, lives on the streets for a while and then slowly builds a financial empire. Alicia is thrown out by her father and sent to live with her Aunt and has a baby. She rings Graciano to tell him that she is pregnant but he rebuffs her. Her father tells her that if she ever has contact with Graciano  he will have him arrested for sexual assault. She has established a charity and is a well known event planner.

They meet 10 years later at Alicia’s charity event. She is auctioning her services as an event planner to raise money for her charity. Graciano wins the auction and takes her to his private slabs to plan his event. 

The attraction between the pair is still there and as they compare notes over what happened in the past they realise both have made mistakes and misunderstandings are ironed out. They succumb to the attraction but Alicia has to rush home when her daughter has accident. This is when Graciano discovers he has a nine year old daughter. He threatens to take Anne away then he reads the baby book Alicia has made for him and declares his love for her. 

Reading back the synopsis I have just written I should have enjoyed this book but I didn’t. The characters weren’t particularly likeable. Even by the end of the book Anne (the daughter) didn’t know Graciano was her father. The daughter is hardly mentioned throughout the book which is strange considering it is a secret baby trope book. Alicia made one phone call to tell him he was going to be a father then for the next nine years didn’t bother making contact, but she thought about it every day. The ending seem very rushed without the characters properly processing the fact that all their lives had changed now Graciano was in the picture. I think this is the first one of her novels that I have struggled to reach the end of.

#AD Book Review: His Shock Marriage In Greece by Jane Porter

His Shock Marriage In Greece is written by Jane Porter and is published by Mills & Boon Modern.  Damon Alexopoulos is a powerful shipping tycoon who has overcome a dark past and wouldn’t let his emotions control any part of his life. His marriage, therefore, was purely business. Unfortunately for him his original bride, Elexis, fled the night before and her sister, Kassiani Dukas, her polar opposite in every way, is forced to be the replacement bride as her family will lose everything if this marriage does not go ahead. Even though Damon realise he has been duped at the church that he has been tricked, he continues with the ceremony. They discover a passionate attraction during their honeymoon around the Greek islands, but due to Damon’s fear of love and commitment can they move beyond just hot sex to a fulfilling marriage? 

This could of been the trite swapping brides at the Altar and they automatically fall in love, but it wasn’t. Damon was expecting the traditional society bride: an exuberant, elegant, confident bride, and on the face of it he got the exact opposite when he was tricked in to marrying her sister. The pair go through a journey of  self discovery as they honeymoon around the Greek islands and it is interesting to see how their characters and relationship slowly changes.

Book Review: A Night of Secret Surrender by Sophie James

A Night of Secret Surrender is written by Sophie James and published by Mills and Boon (Historical).  This is a historical romance, set in 1812 war torn Paris. Both  Celeste Fournier and Major Summerley Shayborne are wanted by the opposing factions (Anne Jean Marie Rene Savary, Choef of police  v  Henri Jacques Clarke,  Minister of War).  aiming to fill th political vac  which developed after Napoleon left Paris to take Russia.  Celeste and Shay have met before war broke out in France.  One hot sultry night, many years ago Shay had taken Celeste's virginity and thrown back Shay's declaration of marriage in his face.  The next day she left for France with her father.  Now, famed for her disguises, she warns Shay who is now an informant for Wellington that his life is in danger and he must escape from Paris, which is where he was hiding.  Celeste is working as a rogue informant for the French.  By telling him his life is in danger she is endangering herself.  They attempt escape to Spain disguised as monks. 

I hated this book, it is the only one I have been unable to finish.  Hence why I stopped at monks as I gave up after the description of Shay shaving his palate so he could pass as a monk.  There are just too many storylines and characters  entertained with historical facts.  The flashbacks to Langley are interesting but drawn out.  I enjoyed that the novel is historically correct but it takes over and controls the direction of the novel rather than the characters themselves.

Book Review: Captive For The Sheikh's Pleasure (M&B) Carol Marinelli

Captive For The Sheikh's Pleasure by Carol Marinelli is the first in the Ruthless Royal Sheikhs Series.  Shiekh Ilyas al-Razim knew from birth that one day he would be King of Zayrinia.  He is committed to preserving his family's reputation when his brother, yet again, caused embarrassment and preventing a waitress, Maggie Delaney, from blackmailing him. Maggie vehemently denies this claim.  Once she has proved her innocence she is free to return home, but will she? 

This is a very well written book, full of imagery of the desert and the past.  It could, without the mention of photographers and the internet be a historical romance.  The mythical royal stories, descriptions of star gazing and sandstorms all add to the depth of the book.

The Mills and Boon Modern Girl's Guide To Turning into Your Mother by Ada Adverse would make a great coffee table book and belated Mother's Day gift.  It costs £2.99 on Kindle or £4 for the hardback edition.  The 5th book in the Modern Guides series, this book is a great A-Z of motherhood with twists of feminism, irony and humour!

Full of tongue in cheek observations about parenthood each piece of advice has a nostalgic 1940s image, piece of advice and then a humorous observation!  Readable in about an hour it is an nice quick easy read that would go down well with a glass of wine!
