Book Review: Tempted By Her Greek Island Bodyguard by Michelle Douglas

Tempted by Her Greek Island Bodyguard is written by Michelle Douglas is part of Mills & Boon True Love collection. 

This is my first Michelle Douglas novel and I selected it as I was intrigued by the description. Set in the Greek islands a reality tv show is rebuilding a Greek island resort. Janie has a very overprotective famous musician as a father and actress mother. She, however, prefers working away from the limelight after being dubbed plain Janie by the press. She works with charities and so signed up to the reality show. Her father hired Zach as her bodyguard to protect her. He is grumpy and not thrilled to be on a reality tv show. Slowly the pair fall in love but will their love survive in the real world?

I enjoyed this book. It is well written, a very different storyline, more contemporary and fun. The characters are interesting and catch the readers’ attention and most importantly are relatable.

Greek Heir To Claim Her Heart is written by Jennifer Hayes and published by Mills & Boon True Love. 

Hermione Kappas is the manager of a luxury hotel on a  Greek island. After losing her family she regards the other staff as her new family and the resort her home. Atlas Othonos recently inherited the resort and now wants to sell it. He is a loner who doesn’t depend or befriend anyone. Hermione has two weeks - Valentines Day is the deadline - to persuade Atlas to change his mind. 

I normally don’t request to review the True Love series novels as I find that they can be sugary sweet and very slow paced storyline wise. I did, however, enjoy this novel.  I enjoyed the contrasting characters: Atlas is a loner whilst Hermione is a people person who always looks to see the best in people and help out wherever needed. With Hermione’s help Atlas also begins to see the good in people and starts to enjoy life for itself rather than just making money.

#AD Book Review: Falling For Her French Tycoon by Rebecca Winters

Nathalie Fournier is a pharmacist desperately wants to adopt her deceased step-sister’s (Antoinette) baby boy. Conscientiously she decides to track down the Alain’s father before she does take the first steps to adopt him. She gets a seasonal job picking grapes at a large Provençal grapeyard/chateau as her Antoinette’s best friend Claire sister had told her that Alain’s father had worked at the Fontesquieu chateau. She falls for her billionaire employer Dominic Fontesquieu, but is he the father of the child? He has the same colouring and an identical birth mark. Raul, Dominic’s cousin turns out to be the father. Nathalie, however, decides she cannot have a relationship with Dominic as she is unable to have children. Will they be overcome this impasse and find their HEA? 

I found this novel heavy going to get through as there are so many questions and flaws that remain unanswered. When Dominic tells Raul he may have a son he doesn’t tell him that the woman he loved is dead. He leaves that announcement for Nathalie. Despite the story being set in Provence there is a lack of descriptive scenes - it might as well have been set in Timbuktu!! The storyline hinged solely on shoes the father and this got overdone very quickly. The interaction between Paul Courtier and just petered out and was a waste of a character. The storyline had potential but the finished novel needed some more work.

A sweet yet staid True Love romance that seems a bit dated and unbelievable in its storyline. Orphaned royalty don’t just disappear and then be found years later - the advent of social media means that wouldn’t happen. Most M&B writers have moved with the times and taken on board, and incorporated these devices into their storylines, whilst also updating them, making them more relevant and realistic to the reader.

Book Review: Cinderella's New York Christmas (M&B) by Scarlet Wilson

Cinderella's New York Christmas is written by Scarlet Wilson and published by Mills & Boon (True Love). Released just in time for the Holiday/ Christmas season, the book due to its title (obviously) and front cover screams sparkly Christmas so as soon I saw it I knew I wanted to read it as soon as it had finished downloading!

Anissa Lang had been an up and coming Australian skiing sensation and possible contender for Olympic gold before a terrible accident put a massive dent into those dreams and aspirations. Now she is working as a chalet maid and a ski teacher in Mount Couer, Switzerland so she can finance her ski training as she is determined to continue skiing competitively and force her body back to peak condition no matter how painful the process is.  Leo Baxter, a multi millionaire, is also in Switzerland for the reading of his parent's will. He has never met them, or his brother and sister, as he was put up for adoption (something his parents always regretted) as soon he was born. They never stopped searching for him and were so determined that he should be part of the family if he was found, that the will stipulated that he must be head of their Jewellery store empire for 2 years or the shares must be sold off. Their first meeting takes place when Anissa skis into a car and Keo comes to her rescue. Their is an instant attraction and he takes her with him to New York. Both characters are struggling with issues that could derail a possible long term relationship. Can they overcome them to have their happily ever after?

The novel reads like a modern 21 Century Cinderella: she is a chalet maid, the princess who runs away from the ball, Leo is the tall, handsome prince.  I enjoyed the New York descriptive scenes. It made the whole story more realistic and the reader can imagine being there in person.   It is well written and I couldn't put it down till I finished it!
