Mills & Boon: 4 Free Reads for Valentines Day!

Mills and Boon  are offering 4 free e-books to celebrate Valentines Day 2026. For the whole of February 4 e-books, with redesigned vintage covers are available to download from their own site, Amazon, Kobo, Apple etc. this is a great offer as it’s a free way to explore 4 of M&B’s main genres, Modern, Medical, Historical and True Love romance. Even if you are a long time reader this also maybe a good opportunity to scope out a new author and see if there style catches your interest or you may be reintroduced to an author that you used to like but hasn’t made it in to your TBR pile for a while.

The first book I downloaded was Off Limits Fling by Rachael Stewart, She is one of my favourite authors and this novel did not disappoint. This is a True Love novel. Gabe and Avery Monroe meet again 3 years after Gabe turned down Avery’s kiss. Now, due to her brother’s meddling the pair are reunited at Gabe’s Croatian castle for the whole summer. The passion is reignited but will it burn eternal or be blown out? Both the main characters are damaged. In the past Gabe saw Avery as off limits as she had a reputation as a wild child. Now, as they spend time together he sees the real Avery and understands why she acted the way she did. An enjoyable read, both characters are relatable and work well together. Enjoyable descriptions of Croatia. The story is well paced and not dragged out. 

Falling For Her Miami Rival is an LGBTQ Medical romance.  This novel introduced me to a new author, Luana DeRosa. Both Jamie and Allegra work at the ER Palm Grove Hospital. Jamie grew up on foster care and worked hard to get where she is today. The ER depended on her. She applied to be the consultant but the job went to a new Doctor, Allegra. She is hurt but ever the consummate professional she works with Allegra and a connection between the pair develops. Once Jamie finds out Allegra is fresh out of a divorce, however, she decides they would be better staying as rivals.

This is quite a short read and focuses more on the inequalities of the US medical system as a storyline rather than the balance of the relationship between the two women. Jamie is no longer in charge, Allegra is. The author created the basis for a great storyline as she could have developed their characters and relationship around how they learned to cope with the power imbalance in the relationship but it is hardly mentioned. 

The premise for this novel is great but the execution is lacking. There are missed opportunities to develop some interesting storylines but I would still be interested to read her future novels to see how her style develops. 

Accidentally Wearing The Argentinian’s Ring by Maya Blake represents the Modern genre. Mareka is the shy quiet personal assistant to  Cayetano, her rich boss. He is about to become engaged (ultimately the engagement with Octavia is a business transaction) but when Mareka goes to collect the engagement ring from the jewellers she is photographed trying it on! The world now thinks she is his fiancée and he is dumped by Octavia. Caye still needs a fiancée inherit his grandfather’s business as his will stipulates that he must be married to inherit.  and so Mareka is the chosen one, after all she scuppered hos original plan. As the pair work together on Caye’s opulent estate they struggle to keep their engagement a business only proposition. 

This is a traditional M&B Modern romance. The alpha male needs a fiancée/ fake marriage in order to inherit. There was a fleeting hint of mutual attraction between the pair prior to the engagement ring debacle but it was never acted upon. Both main characters have problematic families which affects their attitudes to relationships. An enjoyable read, as are all Maya Blake’s novels. 

Finally the novel I wasn’t particularly looking for to reading as I don’t enjoy reading historical romances but I thought that maybe this one may change my mind - How The Wallflower Wins The Duke by Lucy Morris. This is a spicy Regency romance. Set mainly at a weekend house party Marina Fletcher is attending with her family as her father is a renowned architect and he is competing with the Moorcroft family for a contract to renovate Brook’s country house. Brook Wyndham is ex army, ex spare and now the Duke of Framlingham which he losing interest in. What he really wants to do is go on a Grand Tour and find himself. Marina Fletcher is a successful musician who has decided that she will only marry for love. Brook suggests a fake marriage between the pair.

There is definitely chemistry between the pair and neither are the traditional Regency hero/ione characters. The first part of the book is the tradition clean, almost staid romance whilst the second involves Mariana scrambling through Priest holes to get to Brook as she wants to try sex in case she never gets another chance!

I enjoyed this novel more than I though I would but I still don’t think I would reach for them regularly. As a one off it was okay but I wouldn’t rush to read anymore. I can see why they have stood the test of time and are a M&B staple, they are just not for me. 

Book Review: ER Doc's Miracle Triplets by Tina Beckett

ER Doc’s Miracle Triplets by Tina Beckett is a Mills & Boon Medical romance.  This is the first in a mini series following the lives of medics who work at Hospital Bueno Aires in Argentina. 

Isabella is an ER Doctor who finally finds out she is pregnant with triplets after several harsh rounds of IVF. When she finds out, however, she is separated from Sebastian her husband has travelled abroad for work for two months. She does eventually tell him but their marriage is still rocky and full of resentment. Will they be able to overcome this bitterness and make a home for 5? 

This is quite a short read, almost too rushed. I enjoyed the backdrop of the story and how this storyline is slightly different to the normal medical romance. Although it is part of a mini series it can be read as a stand alone novel. The characters are likeable and relatable as they buckle under the stresses of a struggling marriage, IVF failures etc and this is a more realistic view of romance than M&B sometimes portrays. An enjoyable quick read.

Book Review Falling Again For The Brazilian Doc by Luana DaRosa

Yara Silvia and Salvador Martins first met as teenagers 30 years ago. They fell in love but Yara’s parents disapproved and bribed her by paying for her medical school tuition if she dumped Sal. Sal was broken hearted but has moved on with his life. Yara is now a well known diagnostician, Sal a radiologist. He is bring up his nephew, Felix, as his brother is in prison. Sal’s long term relationship fell apart as hos partner couldn’t cope with Felix, whilst she is a commitmentphobe after a traumatic divorce. 

This is a second chance at love romance but with a twist. They meet when Yara returns to  work at the same hospital as Sal - the Centro Medico Juliana Amala Brasilia to work on a consultant on a case that is proving very difficult to diagnose.  There is still chemistry between the pair but as Sal’s last serious relationship was with Edinho he is concerned she will seem him differently whilst she doesn’t she still remains committed to being anti commitment. 

Yara solves the case and despite being offered a full time job at the hospital remains undecided. Felicity is admitted to hospital after falling off a wall and tells her that his uncle had been the happiest he has seen him in the past two weeks for a long time. Sal, however, feels guilt for his nephews’s accident and tells Yara it’s over. Will his nephew manage to persuade him to go after her? 

This is the first  time when  reading any Mills & Boon imprints bisexuality has been a mention or a (very brief) part of the plot line. The question to ask is: Did it add anything to the storyline or was it merely to broaden the appeal of the novel to a larger audience?  The whole issue of queerness, bisexuality and new relationships fitted into the storyline without feeling forced but it didn’t really add anything to the storyline. Maybe if Edinho had actually been a character who the readers could relate to, rather than merely mentioned in passing Sal’s bisexuality would have become a stronger  secondary storyline. 

The characters don’t really gel together. They seem superficial and don’t seem to warm to each other outside the bedrooms even though their respective backstories which shape their characters are outlined in the first few chapters. 

The artwork on the front of the book is unfair both the main characters are both Doctors from Brazil. Yes the photo is a handsome middle aged male but why couldn’t there have been a photo of a middle age ish woman on the front Of the book or a photo of two middle aged individuals as both are Doctors who fall in love again, or would that have been a step to far?

Book Review: Miracle Twins For The Midwife (Mills & Boon Medical)

Miracle Twins for the Midwife is a Mills & Boon Medical romance written by Louisa Heaton.  Natalie a midwife  has escaped her past in rural Montana to try to heal her broken heart and come to terms with the fact that due to a terrible accident she may never be able to carry her own child. She has a new job in a busy NYC hospital and goes out on New Years Eve and has a one night stand.

Her one night stand only happens to be Dr Henry who as she she discovers the very next day works in the same dept. He too has his own demons. His daughter was still born and he is now divorced.

After their past experiences both individuals have deep reasons to guard their hearts. Will Natalie’s surprise twin pregnancy thaw Henry’s frozen heart or will Natalie  take her broken heart back to Montana and bring the babies up alone?

An enjoyable read. Well written, characters are engaging, likeable and catch the reader’s attention. Nothing ground breaking but a comfortable easy read.

#AD Book Review: Cinderella and the Surgeon by Scarlet Wilson

Book 1 of the London Midwives Series, Cinderella and the Surgeon follows the storyline of hot tempered Scottish midwife, Esther Mcdonald clashing with upper class neonatal Surgeon  Harry Beaumont , Duke of Montrose when he arrives with his entourage of students, anaesthetists etc when he arrives at the Queen Victoria Hospital London. Her antipathy and dislike of Harry slowly dies away when he invites Esther to a glittering black tie. ball. Slowly a bond develop s between the pair who come from completely different backgrounds and a royal romance slowly develops between them. 

I found the characters to be very stereotypical: angry, prickly Scottish midwives and the posh Surgeon. It would be great if the roles could be reversed. A very clean romance interspersed with lots of medical action!

#AD Book Review: A Return, A Reunion, A Wedding by Annie O’Neil

A Return, A Reunion, A Wedding, is written by Annie O’Neil and published by Mills & Boon Medical.  This is a second chance at love story.  Jayne is a heart transplant surgeon who has been working in busy London hospital whilst her ex fiancé and GP, Sam has been working with his grandfather (also a GP), in an Oxfordshire village. Jayne broke Sam’s heart after she called off their wedding after her sister was killed in an accident.   Jayne returns to the village after one of her patients dies to help care for Maggie who is suffering from pre eclampsia.  Sam’s grandfather has broken his wrist, so Sam offers Jayne a temporary job. Slowly they fall back in love, but will Sam learn to trust Jayne again and will Jayne be able to forgive herself for her sister’s death?

Book Review: The Nurse's Pregnancy Miracle by Ann McIntosh

The Nurse's Pregnancy Miracle is published by Mills & Boon Medical and written by Ann McIntosh. Nychelle Cory is a nurse, who has overbearing Drs as parents who were more interested in her grades than showing her they loved her when she was growing up.  Nychelle has decided to have her much wanted baby via IVF and bring it up as a single parent.  She meets Dr David Warmington and is instantly attracted to him.  He doesn't want a family - he hasn't got over losing his unborn baby girl and his marriage collapsing as a consequence of this whilst she has already started hers! Will her baby bring the pair of them together?

I always find Medical romances a bit hit or miss. They can be one cluttered as they combine romance and medical issues sometimes so much so that one can overshadow the other! This is Ann McIntosh's first novel and I found it to be cluttered. There are too many storylines: coping with overbearing parents; coming to terms with a lost baby and marriage collapse and entering a new relationship whilst pregnant via IVF. All three would make great standalone storylines but together, somehow, they just don't work for me.  I found the book to be cluttered and struggled to finish it.

Book Review: The Shy Nurse's Rebel Doctor by Alison Roberts

The Shy Nurse's Rebel Doctor, written by Alison Roberts is published by Mills & Boon Medical on 26 July 2018 and is the first in the Bondi Bay Heros series. ER Nurse Samantha, Sam, Braithwaite has always had to err on the side of caution in order to placate her parents after the loss of her dare devil brother.  After moving to a new hospital in Bondi Bay, however, she is determined to join the Specialist Disaster Response Team.  She doesn't get off to a good start, however, as on her first day she collides with long haired, motorbike riding consultant Blake Cooper who is also in charge of the Disaster Response Team. Blake has given up his dream job with Medicin San Frontier in order to care for his mother. Will she be able to break out of her safe little cotton wool bubble and get what she wants out of live, no matter what the risks - and that list includes the Dr!

The two main characters don't make the best first impression on each other as their first meeting is quite dramatic.  The dialogue and interaction between the two is at times amusing at others intense.  There is definite chemistry between the pair that they try and resist.

Book Review: Unlocking the Italian Doc's Heart by Kate Hardy (M&B)

Unlocking the Italian Doc's Heart is written by Kate Hardy and published by Mills & Boon Medical. Dr Lorenzo Conti has just found out that his toddler daughter, Florence, is not biologically his daughter and his wife has left him.  He has moved to a new hospital, Muswell Hill Memorial Hospotal,  in order to rebuild his life where upon he meets Jenna Harris, who is also a paediatrician. She has just taken a year out to act as a surrogate for her sister and has also split with her long term boyfriend who did not want her to give up a year of her life, slow down her caterer and have a baby for someone else. Jenna is bubbly and fun, but has trust issues, as does Renzo.  Will she be able to help him get over the pain of losing his family and rebuild his life with her?

I enjoyed, but did not love this book.  The trip to Verona didn't really fit with the rest of the book, although I did enjoy the detailed descriptions of the food and scenery.  It is a pleasant, gentle read. Not much drama or sex.  The ending is the only time there is a hint of angst but all ends well.

Book Review: One Night with Dr Nikolaides by Annie O'Neil (M&B Medical)

One Night with Dr Nikolaides is written by Annie O'Neil and published by Mills & Boon Medical.  The first novel in the Hot Greek Docs mini series, One Night with Dr Nikolaides Cailey Tomaras, a nurse who has returned home to the Greek island of Mythelios to visit her family,  encounters  Dr Theo Nikolaides, a GP who works in the island's clinic during an earthquake.  They both work tirelessly to help the injured.  Theo and Cailey knew each other when they were teenagers living on the island.  Theo's overbearing (rich) father resent/ed that his son wanted to go into medicine rather than business and also did not want his son to associate with Cailey.  Theo and his father came to an arrangement which allowed him to train to be a GO whilst Theo's father's machinations meant Cailey went to the UK to study to become a nurse, hence he broke them up! After one night of passion she realises there will be life long consequences in the shape of a baby. Now all she has to do is persuade Theo that he will make a great dad.

Book Review: Healed By The Midwife's Kiss, Fiona McArthur (M&B Medical).

Healed by the Midwife's Kiss is written by Fiona McArthur and published by Mills & Boon Medical. This novel is the second in the Midwives of Lighthouse Bay series and is a gentle slow paced medical romance.  

Set in Australia, so full of Australian colloquiums, Dr Finn Foley has relocated to Lighthouse Bay after his wife left him and their baby girl when she was just a day old.  He has left behind a successful paediatric practice and instead taken a position of General Practitioner with a side of paediatric consultations at the local hospital so he can spend time with Piper, his baby girl.   Catrina Roberts is a widow and a midwife who works and lives in Lighthouse Bay.  Both are wary of love and not keen on commitment due to being hurt in the past.  They start off as friends and move on from there.  Finn's wife returns briefly but this seems to be the incentive Finn needs to move forward with his life.    Will Finn and Catrina have love and happiness within their sights, if they are willing to grasp it!

This is a very slow burning romance. There isn't much angst, any sizzling sex scenes or dramatic reconciliation.  It is a traditional gentle medical romance.  The return of the wife appeared rushed and glossed over, a bit of a wasted character but overall it was an enjoyable read.
