Book Review: The Guilty Husband by Stephanie DeCarolis

The Guilty Husband is a debut mystery/ Suspense novel written by Stephanie DeCarolis 

Vince Taylor and Nicole have been happily married for many years. Layla comes to work as an intern at the technology firm Vince is the CEO. Surprise: Vince and Layla have an affair. Layla is murdered in Central Park with no witnesses, and Vince is convicted by the media. He has told a few small lies to protect his perfect marriage image and ensure he isn’t accused of murder but he doesn’t know who to turn to or who he can trust. 

This novel is written in the first person for all characters which isn’t a literary device I particularly enjoy as it can get confusing as the narration moves between the characters. I didn’t find the characters particularly likeable, especially Detective Allison  Barnes. The storyline was well thought out and the murderer was a surprise, so although I didn’t enjoy the way the storyline was presented I did enjoy the premise of the novel.

Book Review: Second Chance At The Ranch by Maxine Morrey

Second Chance At The Ranch is written by Maxine Morrey and published by HQ Digital.   The novel is set out in the Australian outback whilst she recovers from a terrible accident that has left her modelling career in tatters. Hero Scott is a successful model who keeps her emotions hidden behind a cool and icy facade in order to hid her true quiet, shy personality.  She has gone to Hill ranch, a cattle station, to be  with  her older sister, Juliet, who is marrying Pete, a rancher.    A romance blossoms between Hero and Nick. As the romance deepens the history and background explaining Hero’s fragility and aloofness emerges over a period of time. Both Hero and Nick are stubborn individuals, so although there is a strong chemistry between the pair, at others the sparks and tempers fly as neither one will back down.   Nick has trust issues which will potentially prevent him from committing fully and trusting Hero.  there enough to keep Hero in Australia or will she return to London for good? 

The author created the perfect sisterly bond between Hero and Justine. Even though they live on two different continents the sisters still have a bond and understand each other.  The relationship between Nick and Hero evolved and their adoration and love is clearly mutual.  The side relationship between Hero and the side character, Joe adds fireworks to the storyline!

Book Review: Marrying The Rebel Prince by Janet Glover

Marrying the Rebel Prince is written by Janet Glover and published on 26 April 2018 by HQ Digital,  an imprint of HarperCollins. Prince Nickolas Edwin Verbier D'arennes is the second Prince of the small, fictitious, Kingdom of Arennes.  Like many rich Royals he lives life in the fast lane and has a well deserved wild reputation and is widely perceived as the Rebel Prince.  In contrast Lauren Phelps is a blue haired unconventional struggling artist, who volunteers at a local church drop in centre and isn't afraid to argue her case to the Prince.  This is her big break, her first large/royal commission which will make or break her career. Every step they take is analysed in the press, on social media and on television.  Their budding relationship develops under the social media microscope as Lauren paints Prince Nickolas' portrait.  Falling in love was the easy part, is their relationship strong enough to survive all their secrets, incessant scrutiny and criticism from all sides?

Marrying the Rebel Prince is a 21 century romantic Cinderella's tale.  The insidious nature and pervading influence of social media, criticism that she is not a proper princess, plus the realisation that Nickolas has a reason to be a Rebel are all strands that influence the British Royal Family and are touched upon in this fictitious novel.  I enjoyed this story, I haven't read any of her previous books but found her work to be humourous, well throughout and the story cohesive.
