Capability XXL Burnt Wooden Bird Feeder Weather Resistant Hanging Bird House

Wooden bird feeder
My bird feeder/ house was sadly destroyed by the recent gales, not helped by the fact the crows like to sit on it and it wasn’t designed for their weight. The base of the feeder was fine so I decided to get a wooden hanging feeder and drill it on to the top of the base as a replacement. The problem I had was that the majority of wooden hanging feeders are too small or the robes are not high enough which would encourage the larger birds - magpies, crows etc to destroy it. I eventually found an XXL size feeder on Amazon from a seller based in Poland (£35.15).

The feeder took a week to arrive, was carefully boxed up and included a sample of bird feed. It looks exactly the same as the pictures on Amazon.  The house measures 35x29x30cm and seems very sturdy. The tray is great as the sides are quite high which will prevent the bird suet from being blown off or getting wet. The roof is treated and has an overhang, again this will prevent the food getting wet or snowed on in the winter months. I can’t say how easy it is to hang, it does seem quite light, as I bought it as a replacement house. You do have to screw the metal hooks in yourself, for me that was a bonus as I didn’t want the hooks to be stick ing out.

I really like the house. It looks easy to keep clean, is well made and is the largest I could find. It wasn’t the cheapest one available but it ticked all the boxes for my birds’ needs.

I purchased this item myself and the views expressed in this blog post are my own.

Review: Gardman Complete Wild Garden Bird Feeding Station Kit with 4 Feeders & Feeding Station Patio Stand

My whole bird feeder station set up is built around Gardman products. I find them good value, easy to put together and easy to clean! I got and reviewed the Kids bird feeding station in 2017 and it has been taken over by the pigeons who regard it as theirs! The blackbirds have staked their claim to the ground bird feeder and the robins, sparrows, blue tits etc have claimed the new feeder station as their own!

The Gardman complete bird feeding kit comes with everything you need to start your feeding system (I replaced the seed and suet feeders with the heavy duty seed feeders and trays as they have a metal hoop which I find easier to hook onto the station). The pole connected together quite easily. As I am short I left one of the lengths out. At its full height it is 225cm.  The kit included a peanut feeder, suet feeder, two seed feeders, bird bath and a seed feeder tray.   I do think there was a bit too much plastic on the feeders which had to be peeled off. The feeding station comes in either a natural or black finish and is made from metal.

I have purchased two patio stands, one for my new feeder station and another for my original. I think these are great as I couldn’t get the piles deep enough into the soil that they didn’t start tilting every so often. The patio stands need patience to assemble! I found it difficult to get the screw correctly into the base so the holder stood straight up. The patio stand also comes with converters as the stations come in different diameters.

I think the birds approve of their new feeders. Station. I enjoy watching them, whilst they enjoy eating!

Review: Evie Bird Peanut Butter Jar Holder

Winter, for me, means not only changing up my wardrobe, moisturising and makeup routine but also changing and increasing my bird feeders.  In the summer I use my Gardmans kids bird feeding station.  In the winter I like to add more feeders to encourage other birds to feed in my garden.  As I cannot lift my arms above my head, use  screwdrivers etc I find it difficult to find suitable feeders.

The Evie plastic peanut butter jar holder for birds is great for me.  I can securely Velcro it around washing lines, drain pipes or tree trunks or hang it from a tree.  You take the front off and insert the jar securely in the plastic housing.  Once it is securely inside the wooden front is fastened back in place.  The peanut butter is made especially for birds, so do not try and eat it! and comes in different flavours.

I purchased my 3 Evie peanut butter holders from Horze.co.uk.  The holders are £7.49 each, with three colour ways (cheaper than Amazon UK) and the peanut butter jars £2.99 each.  The customer service from Horze was great.  They emailed me when the items were dispatched, the items arrived within a week and were securely wrapped.

I purchased these items myself and are available here
